Is an oath of allegiance required to become a US citizen?

Today, I attended the swearing in ceremony of a friend of mine, to become a citizen of the United States. Most of the applicants happily sung our national anthem The Star Spangled Banner, and, energetically took the Oath of allegiance to the United States. Very disturbingly however, too many failed to sing The Star Spangled Banner, and more importantly, failed to take the Oath. They simply stood there and said nothing. These people were given citizenship rights even though they did not say the Oath. Are they actually citizens? Why are we allowing this?

The debt ceiling and our elected officials

Whether or not to raise the debt ceiling is an issue upon which reasonable minds can differ.  This is illustrated by the differing opinions of our well respected leaders, Bachmann, Boehner, and West.  So, simply because one of our leaders takes an action or one or few decisions that we may or may not agree with, does not justify castigating them or seeking their ouster.  We must allow our leaders to lead.  It appears that they have best interests at heart.  These are good men and women.  Support your leaders.  Let them know that you are behind them no matter what.
